Reflections West first annual show a smash success!
Doug
attended the first annual Reflections West art show this spring and it was
extremely well received by collectors. The event had two special events linked
to it - a paint by numbers draw and the exhibition held in the main lobby of
the
downtown Hyatt hotel in Calgary. In connection with this show, the presentations
for induction to WestGuild were made and was a highlight of the weekend.
Doug
is honoured to have been inducted into WestGuild and is recognized as a
Master Artist and charter member of this society. WestGuild is an accrediting
body
honouring Western Canadian landscape and lifestyle artists who have made significant
contributions to connecting people, community and art.
Doug is extremely honoured
to be inducted into such an elite group of artists.

A
banner year at the Calgary Stampede in 2007!
The 2008 Calgary Stampede poster painting was unveiled to great success during
the 2007 Stampede in Calgary. Doug was chosen
to paint the image that was used for the poster (see below) and the painting
was auctioned for a record breaking $63,000. The poster is
distributed worldwide and is the first of it's kind representing Aboriginal
people solely as the 2008 image of the Stampede. Doug is most honored
by the reaction to the poster by First Nations people. "I've devoted the
heart of my painting career to portraying their culture with honor and with
as much attention to detail and accuracy as I'm able, so to have the Native
community embrace the poster so strongly honors me in return".
